Once the residence
of Maharaja Ganga Singhji of Bikaner,Laxmi Niwas Palace Bikaner
who personally conceived, foresaw and supervised the construction
of his personal residence--The Laxmi Niwas Palace-- a magnificent
red sandstone edifice designed by Sir Swinton Jacob in the Anglo-Scenic
style. This stately building, great & grand, is built around
a central courtyard and is intricately carved from the skirting
upto the highest dome. The residential rooms of the palace
were designed keeping in mind that they would be used only by
the royal family itself or by the personal guests of the Maharaja.
Most of the rooms are decorated lavishly using gold wall paintings
and have painted or carved wood ceilings.
